As a three-year tradition, C Dream concludes its 2018 program with a weekend-long performances, lectures, and gala to celebrate graduation of our Class of ’18.
2018 C Dream Annual Gala
On the night of August 10, over 100 students of this year’s program gather at the University Club of Pasadena, who are joined by advisors, teachers, principals, and parents, to kick off this year’s Festival.
The Organization is proud to grant C Dream scholarships and awards to 28 students from 8 training centers, including this year’s top prize, 2018 C Dream Star, to Michelle Chang.

2018 C Dream Annual Dance Performance

Directed by Jia Yuan and Yajing Zhang, the show, held at the Luckman Fine Arts Complex of Cal State LA on August 11, presents a diverse lineup of dance works by students and feature artists from the prestigious Beijing Dance Academy (BDA).
Our show includes ethnic and folk dances of Mongolian, Uygur, Dai and Tibetan styles, classic and contemporary dances. As a highlight of this year’s program, Yellow River Dance Drama takes its debut. With four acts of Ritual, Cultivation, Nurture and Harvest, this drama pays tributes to the Yellow River and its people for their dedication and perseverance. Choreographed by BDA faculty and directed by Professor Du Gao, this dance drama is a successful collaboration between dance communities in the U.S. and China.

2018 C Dream Annual Peking Opera Showcase

The third day of C Dream Festival begins with our Annual Peking Opera Showcase at Boston Court Pasadena. Over 30 students, in full costumes and makeups, present diverse classic excerpts and dazzle the audience with their incredible achievement within a month.
Renowned Peking Opera masters and program advisors Ping Sun and Jinsen Ye attend the show and present graduation certificates to all students.

2018 C Dream Peking Opera Master Class
Following the performance, Professor Ping Sun and Mr. Jinsen Ye host the first C Dream Peking Opera Masterclass for students and local opera enthusiasts.
Prof. Sun introduces the origin, development, roles, and characters of Peking Opera. She also highlights and demonstrates the unique aesthetics of Peking Opera characters as well as versatility and symbolism of stage scenes. Mr. Ye vividly demonstrates the stage techniques and gives examples on how performing techniques help build characters and convey emotions.
2018 C Dream Dance Masterclass
The three-day Festival is concluded by the Dance Masterclass by program advisor, Prof. Du Gao, which is attended by 70 students across the country at the dance studio of California State University, Los Angeles.
Professor Gao firstly give his comments on students’ performance the night before and leads them in a dance techniques session. He encourages students to refine their technical skills and form a concrete foundation to develop and enhance their own rendition.
